Fire Squad. Sunday Morning. School years 4 to 6.
The group is committed to seeing children and young people remain rooted and nurtured through the word of God and the example of others, into an adult understanding and life application of their salvation.
Our Sunday morning programme encourages us to discover more about God's word, how the Holy Spirit equips us to build up His church and one another, times of worship and prayer, and lots of fun. We mainly use the Kids Hillsong Worship Songs for worship and teaching comes straight from God's word using the NIV as our primary source.
The Fire Squad leaders are:
- Becky Taylor (Click to Email)
- Tom Taylor
- John Blakey
- Tanya Davies
A typical morning programme would include:
- Worship - often using Hillsongs Kids music, as well as others.
- Refreshemtnts - marshmallow sandwiches, fruit kebabs, hoola hoop necklaces, or making our own.
- Games.
- Digging deeper into God's word.
- Prayer.
Other Activities
We have one Sunday a month when we have a short teaching session and then respond to God using our diffent giftings; in drama, craft, song, discussion, dance, etc. We create an offering which we bring together at the end of the morning, and finish with prayer. This is one of our favourite programmes!
Social Action
Fire Squad supports www.voiceforchange.org, a Norfolk based charity who are committed to working with the poor and needy in Brazil. They focus their attention on buying small homes to house street children in Brazil as well as providing short or long-term fostering for children who have been orphaned or abandoned by their family.
In September 2007, Fire Squad was sponsored to sleep out in cardboard boxes to raise money for these children. But it wasn't that simple; we had a cardboard box and a ground sheet each. Everything else we had to earn by working for tokens. We cleaned shoes, cutlery, cars, floors and toilets. We weeded, peeled potatoes, sharpened boxfuls of crayons, etc. until we could afford to "buy" torches, hot water bottles and ... even our tea!!!When the money finally stopped rolling in we had raised £450.00.
